2010 Christmas Card 'Snow Angel"

My Etsy account Christmas cards are here!

As an artist I love to see the thought process for art work. Sketches for me end up on napkins sometimes :) This was the original idea I initially drew out. My ideas can happen randomly, I will run to grab a piece of paper to get the idea down quickly. I never throw these rough sketches away. Although they are not finished pieces but simply rough ideas sketched out in only minutes, I still find them beautiful.

Here is the new 2010 Christmas Card! I am very happy with the finished product.

Last year’s 2009 Christmas card was an image of a girl catching snow flakes on her tongue. What kid or adult hasn’t tried to catch a snow flake?  Last years card was inspired by fond childhood memories of winter.

I wanted to keep withing a theme so this years 2010 card was also inspired by fond childhood memories.  Making Snow Angels! I really didn’t want to use the computer for this years Christmas card, as always I’d prefer to draw and paint by hand. I used acrylic this year and treated it as watercolor, slowing layering the paint. I wanted a very light whimsical feel and the look of thick paint was not what I originally had in mind. After creating the 11 x 15 painting i took a digital picture and brought the image into photoshop. I then created a border with snow flakes I created in Illustrator. I admit to being a very indecisive person at times, I simply could not decide on the color of the border. Finally, after much back and forth I loved the red border for it’s warm tone. I think the dramatic contrast of the warm red works nicely with the cool blue of the painting. I also liked the icy blue border, it gives the finished product a completely different feel, and I love the icy chill of this look also.

I ordered my cards about 5 days ago and I am expecting them in the mail very soon. I will have them up on my Etsy account as soon as I receive them!
